The switch on the top swaps between hammer and normal drilling. Though if you just need a strong drill without the hammer action (for drilling masonry) there are better options. I can wholeheartedly recommend for light and medium duty applications. If my job depended on a hammer drill I find a different and heavy duty one.

Only problem I had was using a tapcon attachment to screw in the tapcons. The drill has too much power for driving tapcons, it broke the head off the first three I tried.
Updated: March 2022.... I finally wore it out after years of diy. I bought another just in case I need one again.
So I caved and bought this drill, and man do I wish I'd done it sooner. My apartment is almost a century old, so when I drill into the wall normally (even slowly), layers of plaster and wallpaper come up all around the screw. This drill is powerful enough that I can use the hammer function to make a hole and it goes so clean. Drilling through brick was like nothing, it was an amazing experience. I kind of wish I had more things to hang on the wall just so I can use it more.
