Product Description
Product Description
Digi-Pas is a leading digital level manufacturer with a full range of digital levels with varying precision for engineering and trade professionals as well as DYI users. Digi-Pas levels allow you to measure angles digitally, electronically, and with an actual number, at every angle, all 360 degrees of a complete circle. So leveling your 3D printer bed, table saw, installing a deck, stair rail or extending a roof is simpler, less time consuming, and more accurate. Digi-Pas levels are simple to use. The DWL80 series is great for finding angles where small and confined spaces limits the size of the level that one can use. The DWL80E is a mini pocket digital level that allows for easy, clear and precise digital display of any angles in degrees or % of slope. This model has accuracy of 0.1° at 0° and 90° and 0.2° at all other angles. With a magnetic base, the DWL80E can easily attach to metal surfaces. The hold function freezes the reading on the LCD. This unit has longer than average battery life and an automatic 3 mins off feature. The strong impact resistance ABS polymer material casing is molded with a tough aluminum base with built in vials.
From the Manufacturer
Digi-Pas DWL-80E is an aesthetic & innovative pocket-size digital level having a resolution of 0.1° & Alternate Zero feature. Built-in with a magnet base, DWL80E can easily attach to metal surfaces. HOLD function freezes display reading on difficult reaching work environment. This unit has long battery life and a 3 minutes AUTO shut off feature to conserve battery. For over a decade, Digi-Pas is a world-leading digital level manufacturer with a full range of digital levels of varying precision and performance features for industrial, scientific, trade professionals and DYI users. Granted with numerous USPTO patents, Digi-Pas Level utilizes advanced MEMS technology, proven to effectively replace old-fashioned spirit vial levels. Its premium models of high-precision intelligent levelling instruments have been widely used by some of the world’s most technologically advanced companies, research laboratories and government institutions all over the world.

Packaging
The packaging is nice and easy to open.
Instruction Sheet
The instructions appear to be adequate but does not have information regarding the function of the Alt.Zero button. The description from the manufacturer states "by holding both MODE and HOLD button, The SWL80E is set to alternate zero. See Calibration below for more information.
Quality
On the packaging it states "High Quality" and precision, however; I'm not overly impressed with the quality. The body is a good quality molded plastic, however; the battery compartment cover does not appear to be of the same quality. There is a very small screw on the back at the battery compartment with a small sticker and arrow pointing toward the screw that states "Unscrew to open". The screw requires a small precision screwdriver to open and close and you must first remove a plastic strip to connect the battery for the first time. On my Digi-Pas the screw does not lock down the battery compartment cover and I can already tell that a piece of tape would eventually be required to hold the cover in place. The instructions have a picture of the battery compartment cover, but the cover is different then what is actually on the level.
Calibration
Calibration is straight forward and not too difficult. Part of the calibration instructions is to “Place DWL80E on a flat & clean surface (e.g. Table)”. Once you calibrate the device on a flat surface you place the device on a vertical surface. In order to calibrate the level correctly you must place the device on a level surface both horizontally and vertically as the calibration is only as accurate as the surface you use for calibration. I had a difficult time calibrating the device and finally found the Alt.Zero button that will zero the device once on a level surface. There is no reference to this button in the instruction and I can only assume that I am using this correctly.
Accuracy
I use a 24” M-D Building Products SmartTool #92288 but the level is difficult to travel with through airports. The SmartTool is accurate to 1/10 of a degree and is a well respected industry level that is made for ADA contractors and inspections. The manufacturer of the Digi-Pas states it is accurate within .02 degrees at all angles. After calibrating both devices on the same surface they are set to zero. I place the SmartTool on a 1% incline and place the Digi-Pas level on top. Both read at exactly 1%. However at 2% the Digi-Pas reads at 1.3% and 4% the Digi-Pas reads at 3.0%. At 6%, 8% and 10% the Digi-Pas is accurate within .04%. The accuracy at both 2% and 4% are off by up to 1% which is an issue if you need to use the tool within these ranges.
Display
The display is large and easy to read when looking at the device straight on. If the device is to be used on a walkway it will be difficult to read unless you get on your hands and knees. It would be nice if the display was on top of the device.
Conclusion
I understand that some may feel my test of the Digi-Pas was not accurate or a fair way to test, but I trust and have used the SmartTool for many years. If the Digi-Pas was consistent, say it was always .05 % off at each degree I'd be able to calculate the difference and use the device for my application. Perhaps I expect too much from such a small device, but I will return the Digi-Tool and and keep looking for the perfect pocket level for my application.

Perfecto.
